Two piece short set

Two Piece Short Set

Hello friends!
I’m so happy to finally start sharing all of the garments that I made for my vacation! My family and I went on a vacation back in July, and I was able to make 14 garments. I will post all garments as I wore them daily until all 14 makes have been posted!
In today’s post, I am sharing a two-piece set that I made by using two different patterns and the same fabric to make the set come together! I absolutely love this set and I feel that it is my favorite out of the makes!! Don’t get me wrong, ALL of the garments are good in my opinion, but it’s something about this set that screams elegance! I used Simplicity 1108 to make the cocoon cardigan (you can find that here), and I used New Look 6737 to make my shorts (you can find it here). Both patterns are super easy to make. the cardigan only takes four pattern piece and the shorts also only uses four pattern pieces. Very easy breezy.
Below you will find photos, and underneath the photos, you will find TWO detailed typed pattern reviews. One for the cardigan and one for the shorts.

Pattern Review – Cardigan
Pattern Number: Simplicity 1108. You can find it here!
Pattern Description: Misses’ Kimonos in Different Styles- Misses’ kimono pattern features styles for every occasion. Pattern includes draped kimono in short, or long with contrast bands, straight floor length kimono, and short kimono with or without trim.
Views:
There are four views to this pattern, the differences are length, shape, trim and style. I made view A, which is the longest cocoon cardigan.
FABRIC Recommendations:  Challis, Crepe Back Satin, Crepe De Chine, Double Georgette, Lightweight Linen Types, Silky Types, Jersey. C,D also in Lace, Novelty Sheer.
Sewing Skill Level: Easy and I do agree for all views.
Pattern Pieces: There are four pattern pieces to view A.  The front, back, and the bands.
Notions Needed: Thread.
Pattern Sizing: XXS – XXL
Size that I Cut: I made an XL. The finished measurements are not on the pattern or the pattern pieces, so I just cut what I would normally cut for these types of patterns. There was a lot of room left, and I was ok with that, but I could have easily gone down to a large and felt comfortable. I have a full bust of 45″ and hips are 45″ as well.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope? Yes, it does.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, they were very easy to follow. I did make a mistake at the top band. I believe I sewed it upside down, but that was my fault for sewing late at night.
What did you particularly like about the pattern?  I like the style of it, the ease of sewing it, that it only has a few pattern pieces and that it is multi-seasonal, and that it looks classy. It also has gathers at the back of the neck and I really like that as well.
What did you particularly dislike about the pattern?  Nothing
Did I learn any new Techniques: No
Did I have a first time experience: No

Pattern Review – Shorts
Pattern Number: New Look 6737. You can find it here!
Pattern Description: Loose-fitting jacket has wide three-quarter length sleeves with hem bands, front patch pockets and easy notch collar. Wrap halter top is self lined with neck and back ties. Pull-on loose-fitting shorts have elastic waist and side seam pockets.
Views:
There are three views to this pattern. A jacket, the shorts and halter top. I made the shorts.
FABRIC Recommendations:  Batiks, Chambray, Charmeuse, Cotton Lawn, Cotton Blends, Rayon, Gingham, Seersucker.
Sewing Skill Level: The skill level is average on the pattern, but the shorts are easy.
Pattern Pieces: There are four pattern pieces to the shorts. The front, back, pockets and waist band.
Notions Needed: 1 1/8 yard of 1″ elastic.
Pattern Sizing: 8-20, this goes up to a hip size of 66 inches.
Size that I Cut: I cut a size 20 so that I could have more space for my waist band. I can fit into a size 18, but I adjusted the elastic so that I could have more fabric room..
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope? Yes, it does.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, they were very easy to follow with wonderful step by step instructions.
What did you particularly like about the pattern?  I like the style of it, the ease of sewing it, and how it fit on my body. This is now my favorite short pattern.

I love this combination! How much of the rayon fabric did you need to cut both pieces?
