Hello and welcome or welcome back to the blog! In today’s post, I am sharing look #4 from the Falling for Sewing Series that I am doing in collaboration with Ellie of Sallie and Sam Style!

If you don’t know about the series, this series is all about making garments for our fall wardrobe. Ellie and I are making a total of FIVE different NEW LOOKS that we consider to be Fall essentials or simply just desire to have in our Fall wardrobe.
For today’s garment, Ellie and decided to make fall jackets, and I made a “hooded” fall jacket because I needed to add one to my fall outerwear. When I looked through all my patterns, I had a several other patterns that would have been nice to make, but I could not find one that would have be able to make my fabric come alive the way that this pattern did. This pattern and fabric pairing was PERFECTION to me.
I have a full detailed review on my YouTube channel with many more photos and video clips. You can watch that by clicking HERE!
So let’s talk about the pattern….
For today’s look, I made ME2057, which was designed by Alissah Threads. Let me start off by saying that I love how my jacket came out, but the making of this didn’t come easy due to the issues that I had with the pattern. If you would like to hear about it in full detail, please watch the video on my YouTube channel here. Otherwise, I will touch points in the pattern review below the photos.
Below you will find photos, and under the photos you will find a detailed pattern review.

*Pattern Review
Pattern Number: ME2057 and you can find that here.
Pattern Description: Misses’ jacket with optional hood. Zip front jacket features a high collar and optional hood, drop shoulders, rounded slit hem, patch and welt pockets.
Views: This pattern has two views; the collar with no hood and the hooded version.
View I Made: The view that I made was view B, which has the hood.
FABRIC Recommendations: Corduroy, cotton blends, denim, flannel, linen blends, microsuede, pre-quilted fabric, tweed, and wool blends.
Sewing Skill Level: The skill level is noted as average, and I agree. The reason why I agree is because there is some sewing experience needed in order to be able to complete this project.
Notions Needed: Thread, and one 25 inch separating zipper. Please note that it is very hard to find a 25 inch separating zipper in your local stores. You will either have to buy a longer one and adjust it by pulling out zipper teeth from the top, or use a shorter zipper and have a gap at the bottom of your jacket. I purchased a 24 inch zipper, but I forgot to put it in during the construction process…. Long story…. so watch the video by clicking here if you want to hear about it. Another option that was not mentioned is to use snaps if that makes it easier. Just make sure there is enough space to overlap.
Pattern Sizing: The pattern sizing is from size 4-22.
Size that I Cut: I made a size 14, which should have given me a finished bust measurement of 50 inches in the bust and 46 ½ in the waist. I have a 45 inch bust and I wanted space, with is why I sized up to try and get the extra ease. The measurements are way off, at least for the size I needed… Like WAY OFF!
Pattern Pieces: There is a front, back, a yoke, sleeves, a welt for the welt pocket, the upper pocket, pocket, collar, hood, and other lining pieces.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope? Outside of not having a zipper, yes.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, and no. I feel that the instructions were somewhat fine, but the hood instructions were kind of brushed on when it came to the hood, and I felt like the welt pocket instructions looked strange, so I followed the sew along provided by the designer and those instructions were perfect!
What did you particularly like about the pattern? I loooove the overall style, I love the fact that it has a hood although the hood is kind of wide. I also like the rounded hem and how you can see the puffiness around the stitching where the facing is stitched down.
What did you particularly dislike about the pattern? The incorrect sizing, and although I am not one to care about linings, I feel that the facings kind of pop out too much , so I feel that a full lining would be better or maybe a wider facing.
Did I learn any new Techniques: Yes, this was my first time making a welt pocket. The sew-along instructions were AMAZING, but the pattern instructions looked off.
Did I have a first time experience: Same
Fabric Used: This fabric is that I used is a pre-quilted cotton. This fabric is EVERYTHING! Perfect for a fall jacket.
Fabric Purchased: Hobby Lobby
Buttons Used: None
Alterations or changes: No
Any modification recommendations: Widen your facings or line the jacket. Definitely measure out the pattern although you shouldn’t have to. Also, line the facings and pocket bags with bias tape to make it look more polished if you don’t fully line the jacket.
Would you recommend it to others? Although I had issues, I would still recommend it because I think that it’s very cute and unique from other hooded jacket patterns that I have seen, just make sure you measure it out.
Availability: This pattern came out in 2023 and this pattern is still available in JoAnn’s and it is also available on the Simplicity website.
Pairings: I paired my jacket with a rust colored long sleeve t-shirt because it matches, my wide-leg jeans and my white sneakers.
