Hello Friends! Today my friend, Ellie of Sallie and Sam Style, are kicking off our new Fall sewing series titled FALLING FOR SEWING! In this series, we are creating five looks each that we we consider essential for our Fall wardrobe! Today’s look is the Fall Top! Pattern Number: Simplicity 9451. You can find it here.
Pattern Description: Draped funnel or boat neck knit tops have options for sleeveless, long sleeve and long sleeve with elastic gathers at wrist. All feature back keyhole and self loop with button closure.
Views: This pattern has four views as described above.
View I Made: The view that I made is view D, which has the long sleeves with elastic gathers at the wrist and on gathers at the shoulder. It does not have gathers at the side.
FABRIC Recommendations: Stretch knit only such as Jersey, ITY, Bamboo
Sewing Skill Level: The skill level is noted as easy and it is.
Notions Needed: Thread, ¼ inch elastic for view D, and one ⅜ inch button
Pattern Sizing: The pattern sizing is from size 6-22
Size that I Cut: I made a size 20
Pattern Pieces: The pattern pieces that I used were the front, the back, the front facing, back facing, the sleeves, the button loop.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope? Yes!
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, no issues at all with instructions at all. Everything was crystal clear. There was a missing instruction step, which was how to make the button loop. Not a big deal unless you are learning.
What did you particularly like about the pattern? I like that the gathers at the shoulder, I like how easy it was to put it together, I like the options that the pattern gives.
What did you particularly dislike about the pattern? Nothing
Did I learn any new Techniques: No
Did I have a first time experience: No.
Fabric Used: Brush cotton knit
Fabric Purchased: JoAnn Fabrics
Buttons Used: ⅜ inch clear button from JoAnn’s that was in my stash
Alterations or changes: Yes, used ⅜ in seam allowances because I didn’t want the top to fit too tight.
Any modification recommendations: No
Would you recommend it to others? Yes! I think this is such a great pattern!
