My First Pinafore – The York Pinafore!

Hello friends!
Today’s post is all about the York Pinafore that I made! I have been wanting to make this cute pinafore for a long time and I am so glad that I finally made it! This was such an easy sew and very beginner friendly with just a few pattern pieces! I will definitely be making this again in the Fall and Winter!
Below you will find photos and underneath the photos, you will find a detailed typed pattern review.

Pattern Review

Pattern Number: York Pinafore by Helen’s Closet. You can find it here!
Pattern Description: The York Pinafore is a playful addition to your handmade wardrobe. It is easy to layer over tank tops for summer or turtlenecks and leggings for colder weather. The York Pinafore is a modern take on a classic pinafore dress with a cocoon shape and two views. View A features large scoop pockets, a dipped neckline, and it comes down to the knee. View B is a shorter length with a high neckline and a kangaroo pocket.
View:
There are two views to this pattern, the difference is the length, pockets and the scoop neckline.
FABRIC Recommendations:  Medium to heavy weight woven fabrics such as cotton twill, denim, wool, linen, corduroy, and canvas. Crisp lightweight fabrics such as cotton and lightweight linen can also be used for a warm-weather pinafore. Drapier fabrics such as tencel twill, wool crepe, rayon crepe, or viscose poplin work well if you prefer a softer, less structured look.

Sewing Skill Level: The skill level is beginner and I do agree.
Pattern Pieces: There are three pattern pieces to this pattern.  The front, back and the pocket(s).  If you want to omit the pockets (I’m not sure why anyone would do that 🙂), you would only have to use two pattern pieces.
Notions Needed: Thread and 4 meters/yards of 1/2” wide double fold bias tape.
Pattern Sizing: 0-34, this goes up to a hip size of 66 inches.

Size that I Cut: I cut a size 18. That gave a finished waist of 44 inches, which gave me 4-5 inches of ease at the waist and the finished hip measurements for the size 18 is 50 inches and my hips are 45 inches wide, so five inches of ease there.  There are no finished measurements for the bust because they give the bib width.  I wasn’t comfortable with using the bib width, so I looked at the standard bust chart measurements that were in the instructions for size 18 and it was 44 inches, and because of that and the finished hip and waist measurements, I decided that the size 18 would be the best fit for me and I think it was.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope? Yes, it does.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, they were very easy to follow with wonderful step by step instructions.

What did you particularly like about the pattern?  I like the style of it, the easy of sewing it, that it only has three pattern pieces and that it is multi-seasonal.
