Hello friends!
If you follow the sewing community, you are probably aware of the $0.99 Hobby Lobby New Look pattern sale that went on a few weeks ago. If you didn’t know about it, Hobby Lobby is discontinuing patterns and they started with New Look, and discounted all New Look patterns down to $0.99! Now you know I had to pick up a million patterns LOL.
New look patterns in general (in my opinion), are easier and less complicated patterns to sew. So if you would like to sew patterns in that category, I would encourage you to check out your local Hobby Lobby to see if they have any left.
On to the pattern….
Today’s make is New Look 6708, you can find it here! This is a very simple and fast make and I love it! I also made this in collaboration with Martika of Martika J Makes on YouTube! As a Bonus, Martika created a “sew along” for this project that will be published on Monday! As ANOTHER bonus, if you are not able to find this pattern or if you prefer a PDF pattern, I will link to a FREE PDF pattern that is extremely close in comparison to this pattern, and many people have sewn it up and it looks GREAT! The pattern is by the company The Little Lizard King and the pattern is called the Styla Reine and you can find it here!
If you would like to you my YouTube video review to see video clips and join in on the conversation, you can click here! You can also watch Martika’s video by clicking here!
Below, you will find photos of my top and below the photos you will find a detailed pattern review! Thanks for stopping by!

Pattern Review
Pattern Number: New Look 6708. You can find it here.
Pattern Description: Two-piece raglan sleeves have gathers at seam front and back. Both long and elbow length sleeves are finished with elastic gathers at hem. Top features button back keyhole opening.
Views: There are two views, long and elbow length sleeves
View I Made: The view that I made: view B, elbow length sleeves
FABRIC Recommendations: Gauze, Linen, Cotton Blends, and other woven fabrics
Fabric Used: 100% Linen
Purchased From: Hobby Lobby
Sewing Skill Level: The skill level is noted as easy to sew and it is.
Notions Needed: Thread, one button (5/8) inch and 1/4 inch elastic for the sleeve hem.
Pattern Sizing: The pattern sizing start at 6-18 and I made a size 18. Note that the pattern does not list the finished garment measurements, but the measurements that are listed ARE the finished garment measurements because they match the tissue paper pattern pieces.
Size that I Cut: The size that I cut was an 18, which is the largest size and gives a bust of 46 inches. My bust is 45 inches.
Pattern Pieces: Six pattern pieces. Five were for the actual top construction and the other was the elastic guide.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope?
Yes, I feel like I achieved the look!
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, but the finished of the sleeve hem was kind of off. It asks you to fold it at the fold line and there is no fold line. If you would like to see how I worked around that, you can watch my video where I explained it in detail by clicking here.
What did you particularly like about the pattern? I like the boxy style of the top, the length, the gathers at the shoulders in the front and the back, the closure, and the ease of putting it together along with the ease of the construction.
What did you particularly dislike about the pattern? The installation of the loop for the button.
Did I learn any new Techniques: No
Did I have a first time experience: No
Alterations or changes: No
Any modification recommendations: No
Would you recommend it to others? Yes!
Availability: This pattern came out in 2021, and it is still available at your local JoAnns and on the Simplicity website. You can find it here! If you would like to try the Free Styla Reina, you can find it here! It has lots of similarities and it’s super cute!
