Photos Below

Hello everyone and thank you for stopping by the Blogl! My name is Talisha and I also go by CreativiteeByT, and today I will be sharing the SECOND GARMENT of the SECOND CATEGORY of my mini Fall wardrobe collection titled FALLING FOR SEWING!!
This collection consists of  five DIFFERENT and NEW garments!
Not only will I be sharing five different new garments that I made, but I collaborated with another sewist, Ellie, of Sallie and Sam Style, and she will be sharing five NEW garments as well!
Ellie does not have a blog, so if you would like to see what she made, you can watch it HERE!
If you would like to see all of my garments in one video, you can click HERE to watch it on my YouTube channel!
So let me tell you a little about this collection that we made.  Ellie and I decided to title this series and/or collection, FALLING FOR SEWING, and make a small collection that consists of two categories! Within our categories we have also given all of our makes a theme or a name that reminds us of something related to this season!
The first category is titled “Fall Essentials”, which has three different garment types: The first garment type is an outerwear, which could be a shacket, a blazer, a coat, a cape or a cardigan or anything of that nature.  The second look is the  perfect Fall dress, and the third look is a pair of Fall pants!
The second category consists of a Day and Night look!

So with that being said, I will go ahead and share the SECOND look of the SECOND CATEGORY, which is the “NIGHT” LOOK!

For my NIGHT look, I made a MINI DRESS!”
For the Night Look, I wanted to make something that my husband would appreciate LOL!!
I wanted to make something that I would not normally wear throughout the day, but something that was more jazzy but yet on the fancy side!  Although I wanted to be jazzed up, I still wanted to be warm, so I that is why I used sweater fabric to make the dress.
Even though I feel the dress is nice, it didn’t turn out as planned and I am not certain why that happened…. It’s too tight even though I sized it up when making it… I went off of the finished measurements, which goes all the way up to 50 inches on the bust, but I didn’t size up by that much… Maybe I should have…..

So let’s get into the pattern review, but if you want to hear more, you can watch the video by clicking HERE!

*Pattern Review

Pattern Number: Nel Look 6740
Pattern Description: Misses’ Misses’ Mini Dresses
Tubular shaped mini dress comes with short or long sleeves and a zipper on the side. View A has sleeve cuffs. View B has sleeve bands. View C is a turtleneck dickey.
Views: This pattern has three views as described above.
View I Made:  The view that I made is view B, which has the long sleeves
FABRIC Recommendations: Stretch knits only such as double knit, fleece, ponte, sweatshirt fleece and terry knit.
Sewing Skill Level: The skill level is noted as easy and it is but there is a zipper that is installed on one of the side seams on the band, so if you are not familiar with installing zippers, you may not want to sew this.
Notions Needed: Thread and one 14 separating zipper.  The pattern does not indicate that the zipper should be separating, but it must be to get the look that the model is giving.
Pattern Sizing: The pattern sizing is from size 6-18
Size that I Cut: I made a size 14, which gives a finished bust measurement of 46.5 inches, and my bust is an even 45 inches. This did fit well PRIOR to adding the band at the bottom. It was when the band was attached that everything spiraled downward…
Pattern Pieces: The pattern pieces that I used were the front, the back, the pockets, the sleeves, the facing and back facing and the collar.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope? Well, not exactly because it’s not as loose as the models, but you can look at it and tell that my inspiration came from that pattern.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, no issues at all with instructions at all.
What did you particularly like about the pattern?  I like the look in general and I may try to make it again… I think it’s pretty hot!  I just need it to not be so tight on my hips and backside!
What did you particularly dislike about the pattern?  The only thing I didn’t like was the tightness and the fact that there is no easy and undetectable way to finish the side with the zipper if you don’t want to use a zipper. Also, I don’t like that it needs to be a separating zipper of that size because it’s hard to find in the stores AND it’s hard to modify a separating zipper down to a size that you need. Sizing down a separating zipper is NOT the same as sizing down a normal zipper.  You have to remove teeth from the top and you need special tools and plenty of time and patience…. None of which I have LOL.
Did I learn any new Techniques: No
Did I have a first time experience: Yes, first time making a Dickie.
Fabric Used:  Cream Sweater Rib Knit Fabric. You can find it here.
Fabric Purchased: JoAnn Fabrics
Buttons Used: None
Alterations or changes: Yes, I slipstitched the zipper side together vs. using a zipper because after trying it on, I knew I wasn’t going to keep it as it is and I didn’t want to waist a zipper or my time adding it in.
Any modification recommendations: No
Would you recommend it to others? Yes! I think this is such a great pattern, but make sure that you are ok with the relaxed/boxy style that this gives.
Availability: This pattern came out in 2022 and this pattern is still available in stores (JoAnn’s and Hobby Lobby) and it is also available on the Simplicity website.  You can find it by clicking HERE!
Pairings:. I paired my dress with cream leggings that are ready to wear and my cream colored knee high boots. Wristlet made by me.
