Hello everyone and thank you for stopping by the Blogl! My name is Talisha and I also go by creativiteebyT, and today I will be sharing GARMENT #2 of my mini Fall wardrobe collection titled FALLING FOR SEWING!!
This collection consists of five DIFFERENT and NEW garments!
Not only will I be sharing five different new garments that I made, but I collaborated with another sewist, Ellie, of Sallie and Sam Style, and she will be sharing five NEW garments as well!
Ellie does not have a blog, so if you would like to see what she made, you can watch it HERE!
If you would like to see all of my garments in one video, you can click HERE to watch it on my YouTube channel!
So let me tell you a little about this collection that we made. Ellie and I decided to title this series and/or collection, FALLING FOR SEWING, and make a small collection that consists of two categories! Within our categories we have also given all of our makes a theme or a name that reminds us of something related to this season!
The first category is titled “Fall Essentials”, which has three different garment types: The first garment type is an outerwear, which could be a shacket, a blazer, a coat, a cape or a cardigan or anything of that nature. The second look is the perfect Fall dress, and the third look is a pair of Fall pants!
So with that being said, I will go ahead and share the SECOND look of the Fall Essentials category!
This SECOND look that I made is titled “Pumpkin Pie!”
I made these “Pumpkin Pie” pants by using McCall’s 7942! I named these pants Pumpkin Pie because orange color on the fabric reminds me of the MANY orange pumpkins that I see in the Fall, and the white lines represent the splash of whip cream that is usually on the top of pumpkin pie!!!
Let’s get into the pattern review, but if you want to hear more, you can watch the video by clicking HERE!
*Pattern Review
Pattern Number: McCall’s 7942
Pattern Description: Misses’, Children’s and Girls’ Top, Skirt, Shorts and Pants
Pullover top has elasticized back and pleated details. Skirt, shorts and pants have elasticized waist, side seam pockets and tie. D: Rolled cuff.
Views: This pattern has four views, A. Top, B. Skirt, C. Shorts, D. Pants
View I Made: The view that I made is view D
FABRIC Recommendations: Cotton Blends, Cotton, Linen
Sewing Skill Level: The skill level is noted as easy, and it is actually a “Learn to Sew” pattern.
Notions Needed: 1 ¼ yards of ¾ inch elastic for the view I made. Bias tape is also needed for a different view and different measurements of the elastic is needed for the other views.
Pattern Sizing: The pattern sizing is from size S-XL
Size that I Cut: The size that I cut was a Large and I feel that is the perfect size
Pattern Pieces: The pattern pieces that I used were the front, the back, the pockets and the tie
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope? Yes!
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, no issues at all with directions
What did you particularly like about the pattern? I like the paperbag waist look with the elasticated waistline, the pockets, the cute tie and the length of the pants. The length of the pants allowed for me to pull the pants up onto my high waist without my pants flooding as I prefer that look. I also like that the tie is faux, so it is very small and it is sewn down vs. wrapped around the whole waist.
What did you particularly dislike about the pattern? Nothing
Did I learn any new Techniques: No
Did I have a first time experience: Yes, making a faux tie for the front.
Fabric Used: Orange Fall plaid that is absolutely beautiful and feels good. However, I did experience that the printing was lopsided, so it was hard to get the plaids to match in certain areas.
Fabric Purchased: Hobby Lobby
Buttons Used: None
Alterations or changes: No
Any modification recommendations: No
Would you recommend it to others? Yes! I think this is such a great pattern, and you can make a whole outfit out of it by making the top, shorts, pants or skirt.
Availability: This pattern came out in 2022 according to the pattern, however, I believe it came out before that time and is possibly a reprint. This pattern is still available in stores (JoAnn’s and Hobby Lobby) and it is also available on the Simplicity website. You can find it by clicking HERE!
Pairings:. I paired my pants with my rust colored long sleeve t-shirt underneath my white button down shirt (both ready to wear) and my peanut butter chunky loafers!
Wristlet made by me.
